Description:

The underwings of daggerwing butterflies are often dull and in some species look remarkably like dead leaves, or are much paler, producing a cryptic effect that helps the butterfly disappear into its surroundings.

Habitat:

Southern U.S. to Brazil. Tropical lowland forests and edges. Host plants: Common fig (Ficus carica) and wild banyan tree (F. citrifolia) in the fig family (Moraceae).
