White-nosed Water Snake

Amphiesma flavifrons

Description:

A juvenile snake, around 0.5 meter length with nice pattern on its body. Saw this one out hunting during a night walk. Small in length, moderately slender bodied snake with a long tail. Can grow to a maximum of about 0.74 metres. Head is moderately short, oval-shaped when viewed from above and distinct from neck. Snout is short and rounded when viewed from above. Eyes are medium in size with round pupils. Dorsal scales are weakly keeled ( first dorsal scale row is smooth ).

Habitat:

Tropical forest. In and around fresh water streams in primary and secondary forest at elevations up to about 1400 metres.
