Indian giant squirrel

Description:

Also called Malabar giant squirrel, this is a large squirrel weighing up to 2 kg and with a body length of 40 cm. Very beautiful squirrel which prefers the upper canopy and makes spectacular jumps of up to 6 meters to travel between tree tops. Feeds on leaves and fruits. Fairly common in western ghats.

Habitat:

Spotted in Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Thattekkad, Kerala.
