Hieroglyphic Cicada

Neocicada hieroglyphica

Description:

I know this is a cicada, but wondering if it's an "Annual" or "Dog-day Cicada".... It seems smaller than the ones I from Pennsylvania I'm more familiar with. About 1.25" long.

Habitat:

Our backyard, central Florida

Notes:

It was the strangest thing... My husband was using a blower to clear the leaves off our gazebo, and this cicada came zooming in, landing right next to him. He called me out, and I caught it and released it away from my hens. (!) he continued to use the blower, and it came back! Three times!!! Last time it landed IN my chicken run and I had to scramble to get it before my girls did. This time I released it FAR away on my front garden in the goldenrods. Could the sound of the blower have attracted this cicada???
