Eutelia adulatrix
28mm wingspan This is called Flattered Turntail in Africa.
Balcony, attracted from the surrounding countryside by night light.
Limestone outcrop in foothills of Los Serranos mountains.
I think it was an African site I got that from,
There are so many moths here with no common names that I make up my own to put on the pictures when I process them, and sometimes end up using them. Every so often I find the odd name in some old literature. I don't bother too much with common names so long as the scientific name is correct.
The other day I found Bordered Ermel from the Natural History Museum for Ethmia bipunctella where I had been using Viper's Bugloss from the Mississippi Uni site. It turns out that Viper's Bugloss is the host foodplant for that species!
Sorry about that! I must have had another species in my clipboard. The common name was a guess for me. Most of the moths in this genus in NA are referred to by the genus name, with the specific name translated to English. I translated adulatrix, which turned out to be part of the root word "to flatter".
Thanks for the ID J.
The link leads to a different species but it looks like something else I have seen recently but not identified yet.
No idea where you found the Common Name but I found it called Flattered Turntail!
Gorgeous. According to the site above, one of the few species of Eutelia in Europe.
