Description:

Fruit of American strawberry bush (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/189...). Most of the leaves had been stripped at this point, presumably by deer. The seeds are usually orange, but this plant had much redder seeds.

Habitat:

Edges of moist woods.

It almost looks as if there should be a cherry on the end of that stalk not such a beautiful flower/fruit

YukoChartaw and Hemma, thanks for the kind comments. Another nickname for this plant is "Hearts bursting with love," and I think the picture really shows why.
