Bordered Patch Butterfly

Description:

The Bordered Patch is an extremely variable butterfly, both on the upperside & underside wings. Females lay their eggs in clusters of about 100 or more on the underside of host plant leaves.

Habitat:

Southwestern U.S. south to Argentina. Oak woodlands, desert hills, fields, roadsides. Host plants: Sunflower family including sunflowers (Helianthus), ragweed (Ambrosia trifida), crownbeard (Verbesina), and cockleburs (Xanthium).
