Horsfield's Bronze-cuckoo (juvenile)

Chalcites basalis

Description:

This lovely little bird is distinguished by its green and bronze iridescent colouring on its back and incomplete brown barring from neck to tail. What distinguishes the Horsfield’s Bronze-cuckoo from other bronze cuckoos is its white eyebrow and brown eye stripe (Wiki). [A juvenile has] no bars on front but rufous in tail is diagnostic. (http://www.graemechapman.com.au/) - see pic 3

Habitat:

Hanging about in the backyard.

Notes:

My second time I have ever seen this species! First time was five days ago - at a different location and it was an adult :) Reference: http://www.graemechapman.com.au/library/... Reference: http://www.birdlife.org/datazone/species...
