Crested Serpent Eagle

Spilornis cheela melanotis

Description:

This lovely Eagle was just perched in a Sal tree by the side of one of the tracks In Kanha whilst we were out on a game drive and allowed us to get reasonably close to it to take some photos. It is a medium-large, dark brown eagle, stocky, with rounded wings and a short tail. Its short black and white fan-shaped nuchal crest gives it a thick-necked appearance.

Habitat:

This one was seen in the forest of Kanha National Park and they are resident across all of Asia with size decreasing further South.
