True Dung Beetle

Scarabaeinae

Description:

Small, about half an inch I think. Black, and he tucks up his front legs into his head when he plays dead. And when I was releasing him his front legs have little spikes on them so he tried to dig out of my hand. It kinda hurt...

Habitat:

Right outside of a workshop at my house, he looked like an acorn but when curiosity got the better of me and I looked it was CERTAINLY not an acorn. Very lively little guy when he wasn't playing dead.

Notes:

Odd little horn on his odd little shovel-like head. EXTREMELY strong for such an adorably tiny little bug. Really really really strong. I was impressed when he bulldozed my finger aside in his effort to get free. I underestimated this little mini-hulk. :D
