big sagebrush

Artemisia tridentata

Description:

I had to snag a couple shots of this sagebrush because of its flowers! Most people know big sagebrush by its dull gray coloring but it can definitely be showy when it's blooming! Unfortunately, I couldn't capture a good closeup of the tiny flowers.

Habitat:

This big sagebrush was found alongside the walking path at the Riverside Park in Heyburn, Idaho. It was growing alongside both native and cultivated herbs, shrubs and trees.

Notes:

Big sagebrush is a keystone species of the Great Basin Desert and is probably the most well known of all its plants. It is a member of the sunflower family (Asteraceae).
