Unknown species of shelf fungus spotted near Hossawa Fall in Tokyo Prefecture, Japan. This fungus was growing on a cherry tree.
In all likelihood, this is also Ganoderma. Was just trying to narrow down to species-level. Sadly, the vast majority of Ganoderma can’t be identified without microscopy/DNA. Even then, their taxonomy is disputed!
Was the fungus wet from rain or with a naturally smooth/shiny surface?
Looks like a great big piece of cake ha ha. Great spotting. Thank you for sharing :)
