Differential Grasshopper

Melanoplus differentialis

Description:

Grasshopper approximately 2.5 inches long. No distinctive markings on forewings or pronatum. Distinctive herringbone markings on the outer side of the yellow hind tibiae.

Habitat:

Perched on a seed capsule of a Swamp Rosemallow (Hibiscus moscheutos) at edge of lake.

Notes:

This species of grasshopper is among the last seen before the onset of winter.
