European honey bee

Apis mellifera

Description:

fuzzy bee commonly mistaken with the yellow jacket. Lives in colony's

Habitat:

Europe, the Americas

Notes:

My family has a beekeeping business. when we first started the business I was terrified at taking care of millions of bees. After all it meant I would get stung but now that's all changed. Bee's are actually intriguing, extraordinary creatures. As you see in this photo the bee is on my hand. Is it stinging me? Nope, if you look closely it is actually consuming sugar that is on my hand. A honey bee will not hurt you unless you are ''attacking'' its hive or harming it for example trying to kill a honey bee might make it defend itself. yellow jacket tend to be much more aggressive and when it sting's somebody the honey bee is usually blamed (I mean no offense to yellow jackets). If you have any questions ask me in the comments this is a good site http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/MISC...
