A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
If I had to speculate maybe a fungus at the end of it's life-cycle (hence the gooey brown mess on the top portion), but the lower part has the intriguing suspended fingers that range from 2 to 14 cm long. The whole mass was roughly 18 to 20 cm wide. There was some less concentrated fingers on the same side of the log as well. I am planning on going back to the log in the future and hopefully it reappears and I can get some pics before it turns to this state.
Spotted on a suspended moss covered nurse log in a wetland habitat in partial sunlight at Dash Point State Park.
