Tulip poplar

Liriodendron tulipifera

Description:

The fallen remains of a tulip poplar seed cluster. I think it's pretty.

Habitat:

Mixed woods.

Notes:

The tulip poplar is a member of the magnolia family, Magnoliaceae. The flowers are known to be pollinated by beetles; I see many flowers full of ants, so I suspect they help, too.
