Banana Slug

Description:

These Banana Slugs are the worlds third largest slugs! They are Californias State Mollusk. They can stretch out to 3 feet long! they are the forest floor dwellers that eat poop, and carrion, and keep the forest floor clean. They like to be in the cooler temperatures, if it gets past 70 degrees F. it is too hot and they may die. They like it in the shade,and come out in the early morning, and at dusk to find food. They also like my chicken grain! They are called Banana Slugs because the look like a Banana colored slug, and can get that big. some times you will find all yellow ones, and sometimes they are spotted with black or brown spots just like a ripe Banana. they do NOT taste like a Banana.

The Redwood Rain Forest, Mendocino County

You, like the rest of the community, will be able to suggest IDs for species that you know but that have not yet been identified, and make other comments on other's spottings, and they on yours. We also have "missions" you can join and add spottings to http://www.projectnoah.org/missions Note that most missions are "local".
