Camas Flower

Camassia sp.

Description:

purple flowers on tall stem

Habitat:

field or forest

Notes:

Camas flowers are important. Their pollen feeds many different types of pollinators, such as bees. Even you can eat camas bulbs if you cook them properly, don't confuse it for death camas, which has white flowers. It is easy to confuse them because bulb season is fall, when both camas and death camas have died to their bulbs. In spring, when it is blooming, weed out death camas. Death camas is only poisonous to eat, not to touch.
