Spined Micrathena

Micrathena gracilis

Description:

A very strange looking orb weaver. Its back is nearly all white giving it a resemblance to bird droppings. The abdomens can get quite large and moving around without the web can be very cumbersome.

Habitat:

I believe they are normally found in light to moderately dense wooded areas.

Notes:

These little spikey spiders are abundant on the disc golf courses of SE Michigan.

I love these kinds. I found one last summer. I use to be afraid of spiders. My first photo was a Black and Yellow Garden Spider Aug. 2011 when I took up nature photography.. I was shaking and sweating. If you look at my spider spots, I like my spiders now. Spring come quickly.
