False Garden Mantid

Pseudomantis albofimbriata

Description:

A green full winged mantis with beady red eyes. This is a male. These occur in green or brown forms and the next spotting is an example of a brown specimen which was found in the adjacent tree.

Habitat:

Local park with native habitat.

Thanks Ashish. I didn't expect this species because the color is not really green but multicolored which, I suppose is not surprising for a species that has two color forms. This made it look quite spectacular especially with the red eyes.

This is the false garden mantis. The male has full length wings and will readily fly away over a short distance to escape from a predator.
