White-fronted heron

Egretta novaehollandiae

Description:

650mm. Pale blue-grey with long yellow legs and white face. A long thin neck and long narrow grey and black bill.

Habitat:

Local reserve with wetlands.

Notes:

The plumage still showed signs of the wispy breeding feathers but as there is a drought here they probably didn't produce offspring this season. The only heron recorded breeding in Tasmania (inbreeding :) Such a grey day - a grey bird says it all.

Thanks Satyen. I'm trying a camera with a little more zoom so birds are now remotely possible :)
