Black merlin (juvenile)

Falco columbarius suckleyi

Description:

The Merlin here in the PNW are darker than other merlins and the subspecies are given the common name "Black merlin". There were two juvenile merlins (in separate trees) being harassed by an American kestrel (pic 2). I assume it was harassing the young merlins over territory.

Habitat:

Spotted in my backyard near the top of a tall fir tree.
