Northern mockingbird

Mimus polyglottos

Description:

A medium-sized gray songbird. It makes a variety of calls, usually in repeats of three. An aggressive bird that will actively defend its territory and chase other birds away from feeders. Will fly at people's head, swooping down from above, if they get too close to a nest.

Habitat:

Common throughout the United States.

Notes:

This bird was singing loudly and continuously from a telephone wire. I stood nearby and the bird ignored me. I moved closer and it still ignored me. I took out my camera and it bounded from wire to wire to pole-top. I took a few quick snaps and left it alone.
