Limonium cancellatum
It is a perennial plant that has erect stems about 10 -18 cm high, protruding almost perpendicularly. Its Croatian name describes its typical grid like appearance created by sequences of flowering and non flowering branches that are mainly diverging at angles of 90-100° It blooms from Mar - Nov. Flowers are purple flowers, about 5 mm in diameter and collected into longer blooms (to 2.5 cm). The fruit is a little nut partly closed and protected by a dry calyx
On the photo is shown its typical habitat: rocky shore, a place full of sun. It can withstands extremely high concentrations of salt and it is not unusual to find it really close to the sea. Native to Adriatic coast (areas of: Istria, Kvarner, north Dalmatia).
The species is strictly protected in Croatia (Pravilnik o proglašavanju divljih svojti zaštićenim i strogo zaštićenim NN 7/06 i NN 99/09) and it cannot be taken from its habitat for any reason. It was used in the traditional medicine as a remedy for urinary track related problems.
