This nocturnal insectivore hunts from a perch like a shrike or flycatcher. During the day it perches upright on a tree stump, and is completely invisible, looking like part of the stump because it stays so completely still as it perches. If disturbed by larger animals, such as Common Marmosets , it may break its camouflage and try to chase them away however. Wikipedia

Looks like a night hawk. It certainly would be easy to overlook. Great spot!
Thanks Debbie...that part was a bit frustrating but it was nice traveling by canoe.
You aren't kidding...even when it stops its still moving! I think 60% of my attempted photos in a dugout had blur on or werent sharp because someone had moved slightly, in which case I have even more respect for the clarity of your photo!!
