Habitat:

Moist, nearby stream, deciduous forest, evergreen forest, Catskills, New York highlands, Shawangunks.

Notes:

Large thickets of this bush that are spectacularly green against fresh snow.

I think it's some sort of rhododendron. The leaves are too wide and flat to be mountain laurel.
