Valanga sp.

Description:

A large green short-horned grasshopper, about 8-9cm in length (antennae not included). Valanga sp., subfamily Cyrtacanthacridinae, family Acrididae. Some Valanga spp. grasshoppers are reported as pests of banana, palm, rubber, cocoa, and leguminous cover crops, throughout Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Guinea. (Or is this Melicodes tenebrosa, Cyrtacanthacridinae/ sometimes placed in Catantopinae??)

Habitat:

Backyard at Biñan, Laguna, spotted on leaf a banana plant.
