These Birch trees have very extremely thin paper like bark that has an irridescense to it so that when in sun light it appears to be silver hence its common name. The most of the branches are bare at this time of year due to it being a deciduous tree. This tree was traditionally only used to make broomsticks with in the UK and was shunned for any other purpose.
seen in woodlands In Rotherham where the majority of trees were either Oak or silver birch.
