Fritillaria camschatlensis
Also known as Kamchatka Lily. Growing from a bulb with a main stem up to 60cm (2') tall but these ones closer to 30cm. Leaves are fleshy, green and elongate up to 10cm long growing in whorls on lower parts and singly further up the stem. The flowers are at the top of the stem and hang or 'nod' downward. They are 6 petals of a purple brown colour and stigma and stamen are green and yellow respectively. Fruiting body is a long oval capsule.
In Russian far east these plants were found growing in coastal areas in crowberry fields and tundra meadows.
A fairly common plant found through the North Pacific area from Siberia, North Western USA, down to northern Japan. The bulbs have some nutritional value and when cooked break down into bulblets resembling rice.
