Clematis reticulata
The plant can be identified by its angled, vining stems, rounded leaflets, and purple flowers. The leaflets of the leaves are thick and have reticulate venation.
Native to the South-Eastern and Southern states. Dry sandy woods, savannahs. This one was photographed at the Aiken Gopher Tortoise Heritage Preserve near Windsor (Aiken County), SC.
Flowering spring-summer (May-Jun).
