Cerdocyon thous (entrerianus)
Also known as Forest or Wood Fox. Medium sized fox body length 64cm (25") plus the tail 28cm (11") average adult. Weighing in at 5-8kg (11-18 lbs). Dark grey coat with foxy red areas around the base of the ears and legs, blackish muzzle and short strong legs.
An endemic to central and northern South America. It frequents scrubby savanna, woodlands and sub tropical forest. This individual seen in the Brazilian Pantanal near rivers.
Although these foxes do hunt and eat crabs, they are also quite opportunistic feeders and will take insects rodents and birds where they find them. There are a number of sub species throughout their range. This one being C.t. entrerianus. Ref: Wikipedia - Crab-eating Fox
