Description:

AKA "Water Turkey", "Snake Bird", this bird is known for swimming with only the neck and head above water. It's feathers are not very water-proof, so they must roost after fishing and hold the wings open to let them dry. This lovely is a female, as shown by the buffy breast and head. Males are a lovely silver and black.

Habitat:

Silver Springs State Park, Ocala Florida. Taken while kayaking along the gorgeous Silver River, which is formed by Silver Springs.

Did you know.... Silver Springs hold TWO world records; #1: the headspring is the world's largest single-vent opening artesian spring, with 550 million gallons of water pouring out every day. #2: The spring forms the Silver River, 5 miles long. Along this 5 miles there are about 120 more smaller springs, forming the largest concentration of natural artesian springs. It is one of the most special places in Florida. Which has a LOT of special places!
