Lepidemathis dogmai
When I spotted this spider, this morning, it was on foliage in a well shaded area and to the naked eye, it looked rather drab. I could see that it was a jumping spider, but it appeared to be brown in colour, with no noticeable distinguishing features. So, I anticipated that it would be difficult to identify because its plain, featureless colouring. However, since I was there and the spider was right in front of me, I decided to take some photos, fully expecting to discard them in favour of any better better spiders or bugs when I viewed my pictures later. So, as you can see, I was totally wrong about its appearance. My macro lens needs flash to work properly and this showed up these unexpectedly attractive colours. The "brown" was really shiny bronze and the abdomen a beautiful red colour. However, I was right about the difficulty in identifying it. I searched every source I could think of and came up with nothing, but as you can see, Võ Anh Tuấn very kindly sent me the ID just a few minutes ago. Lepidemathis dogmai Barrion-Dupo & Barrion, 2020.
This spider was spotted on foliage growing along the fence line in the rice mill front yard.
Hi Võ Anh Tuấn,
it is nice to hear from you again. Thank you very much for the ID suggestion for this spider. I really could not find any reference to it and decided to go ahead with the spotting and try to find the ID later, but you have done that for me. So thank you once again Best regards, John B.
