Diareusa imitatrix
large and broadly rounded, 2" in length, wickedly camouflaged and shaped insect, never seen anything like it.
primary rainforest
Spotted this insect near the end of our morning hike. We were heading back and I was really hungry for lunch but had to stop, set up my tripod and get photos of this amazing insect. Luckily for me as well, it stayed fairly still and let me approach closely and do my thing.
I am so glad this is not a Cicada. It was really bothering me, I kept seeing it in my mind and thinking it just can't be. I feel irritated with myself for not pursuing my instinct. Anyway, I love the creature.
That looks like it bayucca, thanks again. I'm actually glad it's not a cicada. I haven't seen a fulgorid bug before. It's related to the lantern bug, right? I really want to see one of those.
Fulgoridae, Diareusa imitatrix, not a cicada. Please, verify. Recording for Colombia is OK.
Thanks Carol, alice, Lauren and Mayra. I'm glad you like my new profile pic too Carol, thanks.
Is this really a cicada pretending to be a plant hopper? I can't believe my eyes!
Very cool cicada. Awesome spot Dan! Enjoying all your spots very much! And love your new profile photo.
