Ardea Alba
Full bodied white with orange/yellow bill. Wading in C&O Canal, apparently quie famished as he didn't seem much concerned with my presence nor as shy as the usual Great Blue Herons commonly seen in the this vicinity (i.e.: they'll fly off and rarely wade so close to the towpath, whereas this lil guy was quite near the edge).
Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath, Potomac, MD 20854, USA Lat: 38.98, Long: -77.21 Approx. Time:15-30 PM EST (twilight) Sifting for food quite close to the towpath embankment as the water is really shallow as all points east of the canal have been completely drained and grown over for a couple years, thanks to the "restoration project" (tourist attraction) of the Canal in Georgetown some miles away.
