Nyctanassa violacea
25 to 30 inches high when fully extending head and neck as in the photos. Grey overall color with black mask, white area below eyes, orange colored eyes and a orange yellow area above the beak and on the forehead, only evident in the first picture due to light levels.
Extensive Mangrove stand west of intracoastal waterways. brackish to salt water.
Thought the neck extension was a good look. In fact the pictures are reversed. The individual was tight first and extended just before flight. The flight shots were not clear.
