Bar Jack

Caranx ruber

Habitat:

Open water over reefs.

Notes:

This post is for the TOP DARK FISH. As seen here, bar jacks are opportunistic feeders that will follow goatfish (as is the case here) or stingrays that dig in the sand to feed, thus catching whatever they turn up. Although not their usual color Bar Jacks can turn almost black especially when feeding near bottom. Although I've always seen both of these species in small groups, these two buddies were foraging on their own. Seen while snorkeling right off of the seawall on my own on a recent Grand Cayman cruise visit.
