Red-shouldered Hawk

Habitat:

Purple martin birdhouse over a manmade reclaimed freshwater lake. Hawk had captured and begun to eat an unknown snake

Thank you. I first had it as a please help me ID with a common name of "I suck at ID of hawks" but took it off.

Cooper's Hawks have dark gray and black bands on the tail, as opposed to the black and white your bird has. Also the heavy spotting on the back points towards Red-shouldered, Cooper's has a mostly solid back.
