Ruby-crowned Kinglet

Regulus calendula

Description:

Small olive gray bird that is full of energy. Small bill and eyering you see more of in front and back of the eye. Two wing bars, one faded and one bolder with dark color below it. Most of the time you hear it's fast chatter and in spring you can hear the males song. You can see the red patch on the crown more in the spring when it is courting or defending. Most of the time on males you may see a small stripe of red.

Habitat:

Most of the time I saw these they were in mixed woods from Oak to Willow. Anywhere it can find insects.
