A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Nephrolepis exaltata
This fern has a simple opposite leaf pattern. It looks similar to the Kepler fern. I believe we looked at this fern during lab the other week. It has sori on the back of its fronds!
Dry dirt, but it needs some type of moisture to reproduce. It looked like the fern was growing well due to irrigation from USD. Tecolote Canyon is located in San Diego, CA, and it is a small canyon filled with diverse organisms. From trees, to snakes, native and (non-native) vegetation, plants, flowers and other animals, it is a nice area for people to take a walk/run and look/learn about an ecosystem.
Tram and Meimei (Week 2) Location: Tecolote Memorial Garden
This was right above the Canyon on campus. Its called Tecolote Nature Park..I think. It is right behind the UC Forums, the back path to mission valley/mission crossroads.
Great descriptions. Thanks for sharing something that corresponds to the lab topic! Was this down in the canyon, or higher up on campus?
