Amazon Forest Dragon

Enyalioides laticeps

Description:

adults can reach 30cm (1'), pretty sure about the ID but could use confirmation.

Habitat:

primary rainforest

Notes:

My guide spotted this on a bush just beside the trail as we were headed out to camp in the forest for a few days. It stayed very still and was a joy to photograph. For some reason I wanted to see if I could touch it, so I put my finger out and as soon it made contact, the lizard dropped to the ground instantly and then proceeded to run up the back of my pants! It ran up my back and hide between mybackpack and back. It was totally unexpected and hilarious. The guides and I had a good laugh. They helped get it out safely and we kept hiking. I Love the Amazon, you never know what's next!

What a nice series. Sounds like the lizard thought he was running up another tree and found a good place to hide. I have had a few lizards hitchhike on my clothing before. Congratulations on the SOTD!
