Mangrove (Striated) Heron

Ardeola striatus

Description:

45-50cm Small black-capped mangrove heron with black blue-grey. Beautiful golden pattern to edges of wing feathers.

Habitat:

Skulks among mangrove roots and on mudflats, seldom upright, mostly body horizontal.

Notes:

Spotted at Cedar Creek Falls in Conway National Park
