Stink(Shield) Bug Nymph

pycanum rubens (Nymph)

Description:

This insect was bright red/scarlet. It had six legs, a pair of antennae, just like an insect should have. The insect seemed to have two prominent eyes. The eyes were black surrounded by white, slightly resembling a cartoon eye. The nymph's body looked like a leaf but in the color of red. I learned that this insect is the younger version of the 'pycanum rubens' or the large green shield bug that is found in Singapore. It was about 3 cm long at its longest point and about 1.25 cm wide at the widest point.

Habitat:

I found this in a secondary rainforest in Singapore.
