Stump Puffballs

Lycoperdon pyriforme

Description:

According the British Mycological Society L. pyriforme is the only puffball to grow on wood, buried or otherwise; http://www.britmycolsoc.org.uk/mycology/... My guess at the tree ID is Hawthorn sp. Crataegus sp. probably Crataegus monogyna.

Notes:

cl no sample location approx.
