Moon-Lined Moth

Spiloloma lunilinea

Description:

Gray with distinctive 4 black marks on outer margin of forewings, black collar, wavy lines on hindwings.

Habitat:

Spotted using mothing sheet consisting of 2 halogen lights pointing either side of white cotton sheet hanging from porch clothes line, and 3 black strip lights pointed away from sheet toward/facing open area away from porch. Lights are turned on approximately within 1 hour of dusk, and turned off at least an hour before dawn (to protect moths from predators and encourage them to fly away.) Area is a gated man-made lake community, surrounded by rural agricultural land, and some deciduous forest areas. In areas that are not mowed, the land is old fields within the community, and are mowed biannually. Ditchlines and treelines are left untouched.

Notes:

I've never seen this moth before, it was the first time mothing while it was raining though.
