Description:

Very large fly. Larger than blowflies. Loud buzzing when airborne. Slow ponderous flight in large loops. The face is dark red. The eyes are red. There is a grey patch on the thorax with two black racing stripes while the thorax is red-brown. The legs are nicotine yellow with black feet. The wings are held out from the body ? They are yellow with black veins and black markings at the tips. The scutulum (forgot the word) is exaggerated and the abdomen truncated and rounded with no bands. The abdomen is metallic green or black

Habitat:

Nocturnal. Under lights. Probably moved to lit area after its sleeping place was disturbed because it could not land in the dark.
