A bizarre wading bird of the southern coasts, the Roseate Spoonbill uses its odd bill to strain small food items out of the water. Its bright pink coloring leads many Florida tourists to think they have seen a flamingo.

Cody-Rest and clear your memory cards for next weekend...the Spoonbills and I will be waiting. "-) Best wishes in the contest!!
Made most of my birding for the weekend already, we had a turn of winds this afternoon and caused birding to take a sever hit. Looks like a day of rest for me is in order tomorrow :-) Next weekend I'll be back at high island starting Thursday for 3 days before heading to Falcon Ranch for the Texas Coastal Bend Wildlife Photography Contest!
Cody-Waiting to see what you capture...Good luck, my friend!! (Secretly hoping for more Spoonbills. "-)
Janelle, these birds are currently nesting and soon to be sitting on eggs. They are back in full force at the rookery at High Island. I should be back on these birds this weekend if the pass does not supply me with enough warbler action!
Cody-Oh, Man! I really do love the coloring and look of these handsome birds. Are they attracting mates right now or are they already sitting on nests? What wonderful images you got on this latest adventure of yours. Bravo, You!! :-)
beautiful colours!
Beautiful series!
