Operculina turpethum
Operculina turpethum (L.) Silva Manso (Convolvulaceae), is an herbaceous, hairy vine reaching a length of 5 meters or more. Leaves are ovate, 5-15 cm long, narrowing to a pointed tip, broad and somewhat heart-shaped or straight at the base. Inflorescences have few straight flowers; sepals are green, and are ovate to oblong-ovate. Synonyms: Ipomoea turpethum R. Br.; Merremia turpethum (L.) Shah & Bhatt.; Convolvulus turpethum Linn. Local Name: Bangbañgau, Burakan, Kamokamotihan. English Common Names: Indian Jalap (it's a native of India), Transparent Wood-Rose, Turpeth Root, Thomas Lidpod, White Day Glory.
Found in an open lot beside our backyard. Distribution: Pantropic. Widely grown throughout India; occasionally cultivated as an ornamental. In the Philippines, it is found in the Batan Islands; in Ilocos Norte, Bontoc, Lepanto, La Union, Rizal, Laguna, and Batangas Provinces in Luzon; in Balabac, Culion, Palawan, Cebu, Ticao, and Mindanao, in waste places and thickets at low and medium altitudes.
