Melanerpes formicivorus
Its black and white head, red cap, and white eyes make this a distinctive-looking woodpecker species. The male and female differ from each other by a black patch on the female's head that separates the red cap and the white forehead.
Spotted in an open mixed forest in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Elevation around 6920.0 ft.
