Black Oystercatcher (juvenile)

Haematopus bachmani

Description:

Black shorebird with long orange bill with dark tip and pale legs. Pale eyes with orange eyering.

Habitat:

Mostly found along rocky shore lines but these three youngsters found their way inland to fly with a large flock of shorebirds to rest on a boardwalk.

Notes:

These were hatched this year near the bayshore in Alameda.
